Office of Mental Health Research & Training
Involvement in higher education or earning a GED is often a transformative experience for people with psychiatric disabilities. Supported education is a practice that is continuing to gather empirical support in the psychiatric rehabilitation literature. The goal of supported education is to assist individuals with psychiatric disabilities to achieve their educational and academic goals. The Office provides training and consultation to mental health agencies around Supported Education implementation. The Office has it’s latest Supported Education toolkit scale which can be downloaded on this page.
The Office is involved in continual research on determining what dimensions are important in supported education services, how people with psychiatric disabilities view themselves once they begin to receive supported education services, and designing effective service delivery mechanisms.
